Heads up, Mumbaikars. If you are planning to visit the city’s iconic dargahs—from Haji Ali to Mahim—during the intervening night of 3rd and 4th February 2026 for Shab-E-Baraat, relief has arrived.
The Western Railway (WR) has officially announced two extra special slow local trains to clear the festival rush.
For thousands of devotees, this night is about prayer and visiting shrines across the city. Usually, the gap between the last train and the first morning train is a struggle, often leading to overcrowding on platforms or expensive cab rides. This move by WR aims to bridge that gap.
The Special Timetable: Mark Your Schedules ?
Here is the breakdown of the two special services running late tonight (intervening night of Feb 3rd/4th):
Churchgate to Virar (Special-1):
• Departs Churchgate: 02:35 AM
• Reaches Virar: 04:15 AM
• Key Halts: Marine Lines (02:38), Dadar (02:58), Bandra (03:08), Andheri (03:21), Borivali (03:39).
Virar to Churchgate (Special-2):

The Commuter Pulse: Is It Enough? ?
While this announcement is welcome, online discussions among Mumbai commuter groups suggest the demand was much higher.
Reports indicate that prominent trusts, including the Dargah Mahim Trust and Dargah Haji Ali Trust, had formally requested enhanced services to manage the massive footfall. While two trains are a start, the sheer volume of devotees moving between South Mumbai and the suburbs suggests the trains will be packed.
Commuter Tip: Expect heavy rushes at Marine Lines and Bandra stations. If you can, try to reach the platform 15 minutes early to secure a safe standing spot.
Travel Safe: A Quick Reminder ??
Late-night travel often brings concerns about safety. Veteran commuters have been sharing important reminders on social media platforms:
- Stay Alert: While the festive spirit is high, ensure you are aware of your surroundings, especially on crowded platforms.
2. Safety First: Western Railway typically deploys extra GRP personnel on such nights, but avoiding isolated compartments is always a smart move.
3. Don’t Lean Out: The “slow train” tag can be deceptive; avoid leaning out of crowded doorways.
This special service is a lifeline for the thousands observing the night of forgiveness. Plan your journey, stay safe, and share this timetable with fellow commuters.
