Why do people really crave government jobs? For many, it is no longer about public service or shaping the next generation. It is about the “upari kamai”—the illegal side-income that turns a position of trust into a platform for extortion.
This uncomfortable reality was recently caught in high definition at the Government Senior Secondary School in Huvaliya Pagara, Bundi. A principal, who should be a beacon of integrity, was recorded demanding 200 rupees from a student just to sign a routine income certificate. When the student pushed back, her arrogance was on full display. This is not merely an isolated incident. It is a symptom of a deeper systemic rot where official positions are viewed as a license to loot the common man.
The Viral Video That Shocked Rajasthan
The confrontation begins with a simple plea from a vulnerable student. He explains that students do not earn money and desperately need the income certificate to secure a percentage-based scholarship. Instead of offering encouragement, the principal flatly refuses to sign unless a 200 rupee fee is paid.
She attempts to mask this extortion by labeling it a “donation” for the school interest. When the student correctly points out the bribery, she becomes defensive and repeatedly asks if her demand is a bribe. This manipulation of language is a classic tactic used to justify exploitation. It forces the poorest citizens to pay out of pocket for government schemes designed specifically to help them.
Call the CM and a Lesson in Arrogance
What truly ignited public outrage is the sheer defiance exhibited by the principal. As the student stands his ground, the educator drops all pretense of professionalism. She dares him to escalate the matter, stating clearly that she will not sign under any circumstances.
She challenges the student to call the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, the District Collector, or even the Chief Minister. She mocks the student by asking what he could possibly do to her before ordering him to leave. This level of confidence implies a deeply entrenched problem. It suggests that individuals in power feel entirely untouchable, believing the system will protect their extortion rather than punish it.

This viral footage opens a wider conversation about systemic exploitation in rural education. Local reports and social media discussions indicate this might not be a one-time offense. Broader allegations suggest rural villagers from surrounding areas are routinely charged illegal fees for domicile, caste, and income certificates without ever receiving official receipts.
Teachers hold a sacred place in Indian culture, traditionally viewed as character builders and role models. Seeing an educator act as a predatory gatekeeper destroys that foundational trust. When small bribes cascade into normalized corruption, it teaches young students that honesty holds no value in the real world.
Demanding Accountability and Reform
Public reaction has been overwhelmingly furious, with citizens demanding immediate suspension and a thorough inquiry by the Rajasthan education department. We need faster policing and zero tolerance for corruption in our educational institutions.
